AEO / GEO Checker Guide
Can AI assistants find and quote your page?
AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization) are about making your pages easy for ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews to find, understand and quote. This free checker looks at the signals those systems rely on, scores them, and lists the fixes in priority order. It also runs the full SEO review, because pages that search engines cannot index are invisible to AI answers too.
What the AEO / GEO checker reviews
It checks whether AI crawlers such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot are allowed in robots.txt, whether the page can be indexed and quoted, whether you publish an llms.txt guide, and whether the page opens with a direct answer. It also looks at question-style headings, FAQ and organization structured data, author and last-updated signals, cited sources, and lists or tables.
How to read your two scores
Your report shows an SEO score and an AI visibility score. The AI visibility score is the weighted share of twelve checks you pass, with the most important checks counting for more. Fix the high-priority items first, apply the recommended actions and run the checker again to confirm the improvement.
What this tool cannot tell you
It checks how ready one public page is. It cannot see whether ChatGPT or Google actually cite you today, and no checker can guarantee citations. Treat the score as a practical to-do list, not a ranking promise.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between AEO, GEO and SEO?
SEO helps pages rank in search results. AEO and GEO help pages get picked and quoted in direct answers from AI assistants and generative search. They share most foundations, such as being crawlable, clearly structured and trustworthy, which is why this report includes both.
Will passing these checks make ChatGPT or Google AI Overviews cite my site?
No tool can promise that. These checks remove common technical and content barriers, but citations also depend on the quality, originality and authority of your content and on how each AI system chooses its sources.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
An llms.txt file is an emerging convention that gives AI assistants a curated list of your best pages. It is cheap to publish and harmless, but it is not a confirmed ranking factor, so treat it as a small bonus rather than a requirement.
Should I allow or block AI crawlers?
That is your decision. Blocking AI crawlers keeps your content out of their training and answers, while allowing them makes your pages available to be read and cited. The checker flags blocked crawlers so the choice is a deliberate one.
Does the AEO / GEO checker use my audit credits?
Yes. It runs as an SEO audit with the AI visibility checks included, so each run uses one credit from your monthly pool, the same as the SEO Checker.
